Swimwear in the Arctic??
Rob, some summer campers and I were looking at your latest journal entries, and they were absolutely amazed at the swimwear and shorts you all were wearing on the 4th . Forty degree weather in Houston is serious winter! We were wondering, does everyone dress like that this time of year, or was that special to the parade?? Looks like you all had a much better weather day than we did - we had soggy hot dogs. The rains continue to hammer down on us. I can count the sunshine days we've had this month on half of a hand!! And what a great float that was-kudos to the team!
I know your expedition is coming to an end soon. Thanks so much for the lively journals and all the good science you have shared! We have enjoyed going along on the trip

Hi Lollie and Summer Campers!
Most people along the parade route were in cold weather clothing. I actually had to put a down vest on at times during the parade. That was ok because it looked like a life jacket. I would take it off after I warmed up enough or when we came upon a large group of parade watchers...wanted to give them the real deal. We also had the Beach Boys blasting from the float so I was dancing to the music too in order to keep warm. The weather couldn't have been nicer though. Glenn Sheehan, the director of BASC, said later that it has snowed on the fourth before.
I have lots of other pictures from the parade if you would like for me to e-mail them to you.
