(BTW - I'll get my chance to do so when I go to South Africa in
November!) 
When are you going to go to Joe's Museum? No visit to Barrow would be complete without it! You're almost out of time!!!!!

I have the very fortunate opportunity to be the travel companion for someone who is attending a Marine Mammal Conference in Capetown! We're going to spend a week driving around the Western and Northern Cape area and then 4 days in Capetown itself.

Nice parade pics! BASC DOES rock! Much better efforts than what we did when I was there!
We spent the Fourth canning beets, going for a kayak paddle and then trying to keep the dogs calm during neighborhood firework shenanigans. We also watched the city fireworks down over the bay from our front yard. Very nice!
I am leaving for South Africa the day before Thanksgiving. More urgently, however, I am leaving for Russia a week from yesterday! Eek!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the James Bond connection, but I'm sure you will be loving your trip.
I will definitely be keeping up with you and feeling envious at the same time knowing my time in the Arctic has ended.
Sounds like you had a good day on the fourth too....canning beets?? Did you grow them?

The beets were grown here at my house - our only crop before I leave, but we have some squashes, potatoes, carrots and tomatoes that will be ripening when we return!

It is still on my list and I WILL get there. You are right about the Indian Ocean. I don't know if I'll ever make it though. You'll have to be my eyes and ears about it.
